This annual happening is Vashon's biggest event, featuring live music, artisan booths, delicious local food, and of course, plenty of strawberry themed fun. Families can enjoy a vibrant parade, fun kid-friendly activities, and even a classic car show. The festival takes place in the heart of Vashon town, making it easy to explore local shops and eateries while soaking in the festive atmosphere.

Strawberries were once a major industry on Vashon Island. Throughout the early to mid-1900s, commercial strawberry farming flourished, peaking before the late 1970s. To honor this rich agricultural tradition, the island community launched the Strawberry Festival in 1909, officially making it an annual event in 1912. While large-scale strawberry farming has mostly faded,  the festival remains a cherished celebration of Vashon's heritage and community spirit.

PRO TIPS - Consider booking a place to stay well in advance as many housing options on the island fill up months before.  Especially Airbnbs that can house large groups and families are in especially high demand during the festival.  Ferry lines can also be brutal, but special accommodations for shuttles for walk on ferry passengers and extra fast ferry service is usually available to help with the crowds.
