Our latest find, "The Yard," nestled discreetly behind the well established Hardware Store Restaurant, is precisely that kind of discovery – a true hidden bar just waiting to be explored.
Finding it is part of the adventure! Ditch the main drag and head for the alley behind the Hardware Store, near the Pinball Museum.
 A well lit entrance will lead you into what feels like a secret garden, a beautifully designed outdoor space that transports you to a relaxed, chic oasis.
"The Yard"  shines on a sunny day. We were lucky enough to visit on a glorious afternoon, basking in the warmth and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. The outdoor seating is thoughtfully arranged, offering both intimate corners and more communal spots.
One of the standout features is the modern and efficient ordering system. A quick scan of a QR code brings up the menu, allowing you to browse at your leisure and place your order directly. This streamlined approach means more time enjoying the company and the ambiance, and less time waiting to flag down a server. And speaking of service, it was remarkably quick and attentive, a testament to their well-oiled designed operation.
Now, let's talk about the good stuff: the food and drinks. "The Yard" has a good collection of beer wine and even slushy drinks and small bites. While it's not the place for a full-blown dinner, the offerings are perfectly curated for an afternoon or evening of delightful indulgence. Yes, it leans a bit on the pricier side, but the quality justifies the cost. Every bite we sampled was packed with flavor, and the drinks were just what we needed – think creative cocktails and well-selected wines that perfectly complement the menu.
What truly impressed us, beyond the delicious fare and swift service, was the apparent foresight in their design. Even though we enjoyed a perfect sunny day, we couldn't help but notice what appeared to be a sliding cover and heaters overhead. This thoughtful addition immediately made us eager to return, even when the Vashon weather inevitably turns cooler. The prospect of cozying up with a warm drink and tasty treat under a covered, heated "Yard" is appealing.
In short, "The Yard" is worth searching for anyone looking for a sophisticated yet relaxed outdoor experience on Vashon Island. Whether you're a local or just visiting, make the effort to seek out this well thought out spot. It's a great option for a place to unwind, enjoy some drinks and small bites with friends, and soak in the unique charm of our beloved island. We're already planning our next visit, rain or shine!
